2009 US Masters Winner

In continuing with the trend of surprise winners at the US Masters golf tournament, Angel Cabrera became the latest US Masters winner in 2009 – setting new records as he did so – in a amazing, yet slightly bizarre fashion!
What began as a sudden death playoff against Kenny Perry turned out to be one of the most interesting wins in the history of the US Master golf tournament. Even Tiger Woods’ comeback battle against Phil Mickelson was overshadowed by Cabrera’s victory against the odds.
Kenny Perry looked set to win but finished 12 under after 2 bogeys. Cabrera had a Georgia pine tree to thank after his second shot into the trees managed to save him a par when the ball landed right on the fairway.

Angel Cabrera records at the US Masters 2009:

  • First Argentine player to win the US Masters
  • Seond Argentina player to win a major
  • Lowest ranked player to win a major
